Sell and invoice
Sell from your phone. Invoices numbered without gaps, receipts against them, credit tracked per customer — and money back, when it has to go back, as its own numbered document.
ThumaBooks keeps double-entry books for businesses that never had them — a tuck shop, a kombi fleet, a growing enterprise. Photograph a receipt, sell from your phone, and the software proposes the accounting in plain words, in your language. Nothing lands in your books unless you approve it, or a rule you wrote does — and every entry says which.
This is the real arithmetic the product runs: VAT is backed out of the price you charged at 15.5/115.5, never added on top of it, and every amount posts twice — once as a debit, once as a credit. The app shows you this entry, in your language, before anything is recorded.
Built for how business actually runs here — cash and EcoCash, paper receipts, one person doing everything. The accounting happens underneath; you see plain sentences.
Sell from your phone. Invoices numbered without gaps, receipts against them, credit tracked per customer — and money back, when it has to go back, as its own numbered document.
A receipt, a supplier invoice, a bank slip. The software reads it and proposes the entry with its reasons. It waits for you, unless a rule you switched on covers it — and every entry names who, or which rule, posted it.
Import a statement and watch the lines find their invoices. What matches is suggested with the reason it matches; what doesn't is an honest open item, not a hidden one.
A checklist that knows what's still open, a VAT working total computed from your own entries, and a close that locks the period — late paperwork posts into the open month with the true date kept.
You sell, you buy, you photograph a paper, a bank statement arrives. Every one of them is captured with its source — a photo, a line on a statement, a sale you rang up.
It reads the document, codes the transaction, and writes the proposal in plain words in your language — with what it based the proposal on, and how sure it is. Frequently right; sometimes wrong. That is why there is a step three.
The entry waits in a review queue for somebody with access to your books. Approving is your decision; so is fixing it first. Nothing is entered into your books without a person accepting it.
The entry lands in an append-only ledger, cryptographically chained to the entry before it. It will never be edited or quietly deleted; a correction is a new entry that says what it corrects.
Every day, ThumaBooks reads your books the way a sharp-eyed accountant would, and tells you what it noticed — in money, never percentages, and never the same thing twice in a day. Five things a day at most, worst first.
"Cooking oil went out at $2.27 net; the last delivery cost $2.55 a bottle." A loss with a polite face, caught the day it happens instead of at month-end.
"This delivery cost $3.10 a bottle; the last one cost $2.55." A 21% jump is a conversation with your supplier — the watchdog makes sure it happens this week, not this quarter.
"$200 left the bank with no IMTT recorded next to it." Either the tax entry is missing or the charge is — both are worth two minutes today and an argument avoided later.
You can mute a check — and the mute is visible, named, and signed. When somebody asks why the watchdog said nothing, the answer is on the page: who muted it, and when. Silence in your books is never anonymous.
And what ThumaBooks is not: it is not your accountant, bookkeeper, auditor or tax agent, and nothing in it is accounting or tax advice. It is built to be used alongside an accountant — give yours access in two taps. The full service terms are published before anybody is asked to agree to anything.
Every automated suggestion in ThumaBooks shows what it was based on and how confident it is — and waits. The one thing the AI is never allowed to do is write your books by itself.
Receipts, invoices, statements — photographed or forwarded. What it read is shown next to what it proposes, so a misread number is caught by a glance, not an audit.
"Coded to Transport because the last four payments to this name were Transport." A proposal you can disagree with is a proposal that respects you.
What the books learn about your patterns is listed where you can read it, each item with its source — and each item can be forgotten, visibly, on your instruction.
For VAT-registered businesses in Zimbabwe, ThumaBooks connects to ZIMRA's Fiscalisation Data Management System. Register your fiscal device once and every invoice and credit note is submitted with its fiscal reference kept on the document.
There is no separate accounting app to learn. Install Thuma Express and your books are already there, beside the wallet your money moves through. When it is time for the serious hour — the review queue, the reports, the close — the Books Desk runs in any browser, made for a laptop and an accountant.
Already using Thuma Express? Your books are under Books in the app. More about the group at thumaexpress.com.
ThumaBooks stands on its own — bring any business, from any till. But inside the Thuma network it has an unfair advantage: when your shop sells through ThumaTrade and gets paid through ThumaPay, those transactions already happened on our rails, and your books receive them as records of fact rather than typing.
Every service in the group produces transactions. Only one place turns them into an answer to the question every owner actually has: did we make money? More about the network at thumaexpress.com.
Start with a phone and a shoebox of receipts. Keep books you could hand to a bank, an auditor, or ZIMRA — and understand every line of them.
